Yesterday was announced that Xinwei Telecom Enterprise Group ( PR China – Est. Nov-95) will invest USD$300M in a two years period. Initially the investment will focus on the expansion of rural telecommunications through advanced technologies in Nicaragua expanding later to other countries in Central America. TELCOR –Regulator Entity- will assign frequencies after completing bidding process. Government expects this new company to bring competition to local operators –Claro and Telefonica- forcing them to reduce prices, to improve customer service, and to enhance customer loyalty strategies. No other Chinesse companies such as Huawei or ZTE – both already established in Nicaragua- were assigned with this important business.
